Jack Dee, one of the UK's most successful stand-up comedians, returns as Rick Spleen in this critically acclaimed comedy series with a difference Rick's back - and as he will tell you, he's on the way up, his career is going from strength to strength and he's never been so popular. In other words, he's still the same old self-deluded liar, making a living from corporate gigs, low-rent chat shows and hoping for the big break. Luckily, when he's not presenting awards at the Furniture Manufacturers' Conference or appearing as the face of Bar Lizard Peanuts, there's plenty to preoccupy Rick. From the points on his driving licence to the shadowy hitman he is convinced is on his tail, Rick's problems are always on his mind, and almost always of his own making. Then of course, there's the trickiest problem of all - how does he lie his way out of them? Rick also has to cope with crises on the domestic front - a resignation from the ever morose housekeeper Magda (Anna Crilly); his impecunious daughter Sam (Antonia Campbell-Hughes) and her boyfriend Ben (Rasmus Hardiker) constantly cadging money; and a bedridden Mel (Raquel Cassidy), who has to battle to recover from the flu before Rick manages to lose every C-list client her agency has on the books. Throughout it all, Rick has to deal with his quick-talking American writing partner Marty (Sean Power) and the local café owner Michael (Tony Gardner), whose grasp on reality appears to be getting ever looser. All this and a run-in with a children's entertainer famous for his giant inflatable spanner
