Basic factors in the formation and stability of non-soap lubricating greases( Book )

5 editions published between 1956 and 1961 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The study of carbon blacks for use as thickeners in non-soap greases indicates that blacks with areas greater than 100 sqm/g and low volatile content possess the most desirable properties. Sufficient ion-incorporated silicas have now been prepared and subjected to stability tests in non-soap grease systems to definitely establish the enhancement of properties of the treated solids relative to the untreated silica. Such treated solids show great promise or use at elevated temperatures. A limited study was made of the surface properties of ion-incorporated samples by adsorption techniques. Preparation of high area MoS2 is al o reported. (Author)

Hydrophobic surfaces ... by Frederick Mayhew Fowkes( Book )

2 editions published in 1969 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Hydrophobic Surfaces reviews the studies of solid/liquid interfaces by measurements of heats of immersion, focusing on the important phenomena controlling liquid/solid interactions.

This book discusses the effect of dipole moment, hydrogen-bonding, and acidic or basic character of liquid, including the role of adsorbable species. The nature of the solid surface, electric field, acidic or basic properties, and ability to form hydrogen bonds are likewise elaborated in detail.

This text also stresses that polytetrafluoroethylene surfaces have a few hydrophilic sites that carbon blac
Basic factors in the formation and stability of non-soap greases for high temperature applications by Albert C Zettlemoyer( Book )

4 editions published between 1967 and 1968 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The carbon black surface contains various groups and volatile matter which contribute to formation of the electrical double-layer in all liquid media. Microelectrophoresis of carbon black XC-72, Carbolac-1 and Shawinigan dispersed in organic solvents reveals a substantial difference in mobility and hence zeta-potential among the different carbon black samples. Since volatile matter content is maximum in Carbolac-1sample, 1000C pretreatment of the sample showed a reduction of zeta-potential to about 59% of the original value in n-butanol and sec-butanol
