Stable banks in challenging times : contributions of Andreas Dombret at the Deutsche Bundesbank 2010-2018 by Andreas R Dombret( )

4 editions published in 2020 in English and held by 51 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The global financial crisis of 2008 has shown the great dangers of a pronounced imbalance in the financial system. The numerous regulatory components of the global financial system all aim to increase the stability and transparency of the system and thereby restore the confidence of market participants in credit institutions. Stable Banks in Challenging Times is a collection of speeches, including one exclusive interview, delivered by Andreas Dombret during his eight-year tenure as a board member of the Deutsche Bundesbank, the German central bank, and also, from 2014 onwards, his term on the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank. He also represented Germany at the G7, the G20, the IMF, the FSB, the Basel Committee, the OECD and the BIS. In these roles Andreas Dombret helped to shape large parts of the new regulatory framework. He successfully monitored future developments such as digitalization, Brexit and climate change, and their effects on the risk situation in the global banking industry. His insights are an invaluable look at the inner workings of global financial regulation and policy. Financial system academics and researchers as well as professionals in banking, the financial sector, central banking and bank supervision will gain perspective from the author's observations as they pertain both to the past and our future. --

The capital structure and governance of a mortgage securitization utility by Patricia C Mosser( )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

We explore the capital structure and governance of a mortgage-insuring securitization utility operating with government reinsurance for systemic or "tail" risk. The structure we propose for the replacement of the GSEs focuses on aligning incentives for appropriate pricing and transfer of mortgage risks across the private sector and between the private sector and the government. We present the justification and mechanics of a vintage-based capital structure, and assess the components of the mortgage guarantee fee, whose size we find is most sensitive to the required capital ratio and the expected return on that capital. We discuss the implications of selling off some of the utility's mortgage credit risk to the capital markets and how the informational value of such transactions may vary with the level of risk transfer. Finally, we explore how mutualization could address incentive misalignments arising out of securitization and government insurance, as well as how the governance structure for such a financial market utility could be designed
The Effect of Interest Rate Options Hedging on Term-Structure Dynamics by John Kambhu( )

1 edition published in 2005 in Undetermined and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Market participants and policymakers closely monitor movements in the yield curve for information about future economic fundamentals. In several recent episodes, however, disruptions to market liquidity have affected the short-term dynamics of the curve independently of fundamentals. This article provides evidence that the short-run dynamics in the intermediate maturities of the yield curve changed around 1990, with the appearance of positive feedback in weekly interest rate changes. The feedback is consistent with the effects of options dealers' hedging activity and it is found only in the 1990s, after the interest rate options market grew to significant size. The authors also show that the market liquidity/positive-feedback effects are concentrated in the weeks after the largest interest rate changes. Their results suggest that the times when market participants and policymakers are most interested in extracting from the yield curve a signal about economic fundamentals are precisely the times when changes in the curve may be distorted by liquidity effects

Mortgage Refinancing and the Concentration of Mortgage Coupons by Paul Bennett( )

1 edition published in 2007 in Undetermined and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Because of the concentrated distribution of interest rates on outstanding mortgages, modest interest rate declines in 1997 and 1998 made refinancing a smart choice for a record number of homeowners. In addition, the strong economy and the age of mortgage loans likely contributed to the surge in refinancing activity
A Decomposition of the Increased Stability of GDP Growth by Margaret Mary McConnell( )

1 edition published in 2007 in Undetermined and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Since 1984, the U.S. economy has grown at a remarkably steady pace. An analysis of this increased stability shows that every major component of GDP has exhibited smoother growth. However, two components - inventory investment and consumer spending - are responsible for the bulk of the decline in overall volatility
An International Survey of Stress Tests by Patricia C Mosser( )

1 edition published in 2005 in Undetermined and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

In the summer of 2000, central banks from the Group of Ten countries surveyed large international banks about their use of stress tests - a risk management tool that measures a firm's exposure to extreme movements in asset prices. The survey findings highlight the risks that most concern financial institutions and clarify how these institutions use stress tests in their overall risk management programs
