Multi-culturalism : the view from the two Irelands by Edna Longley( Book )

3 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 164 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Two of Ireland's most outspoken critics and cultural commentators, Edna Longley from the North and Declan Kiberd from the South, put forward views on the constrasting directions in which the two societies on the island are moving. Professor Longley asks whether Northerners will increasingly identify with Northern Ireland as a shared point of reference. Will they develop a more flexible sense of their relations with the Republic and a post-devolution Britain? Professor Kiberd asks whether a newly prosperous and confident Republic is genuinely embracing multi-culturalism. Is it moving towards a post-nationalist society which commits its citizens to a truly pluralist vision? What does it mean to be Irish at the turn of the twenty-first century?"--Jacket
Van Diemen's women : a history of transportation to Tasmania by Joan Kavanagh( Book )

4 editions published between 2014 and 2016 in English and held by 112 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"On 2 September 1845, the convict ship 'Tasmania' left Kingston Harbour for Van Diemen's Land with 138 female convicts and their 35 children. On 3 December the ship arrived in Hobart Town. While this book looks at the lives of all the women aboard, it focuses on two women in particular: Eliza Davis, who was transported from Wicklow Gaol for life for infanticide, having had her sentence commuted from death, and Margaret Butler, sentenced to seven years' transportation for stealing potatoes in Carlow. Using original records, this study reveals the reality of transportation, together with the legacy left by these women in Tasmania and beyond, and shows that perhaps, for some, this Draconian punishment was, in fact, a life-saving measure."--Back cover
Quo vadis? : collegiality in the Code of canon law by Mary McAleese( Book )

5 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 110 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Mary McAleese has produced a masterful and highly accessible study of how Vatican II's teachings on collegiality, or how power and responsibility were to be shared between the Pope and the college of bishops within the Catholic Church, have either been sidetracked or not yet come to fruition
Childrens' rights and obligations in canon law : the christening contract by Mary McAleese( )

9 editions published in 2019 in English and held by 78 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In the first study of its kind Mary McAleese subjects to comprehensive scrutiny the Roman Catholic Church's 1983 Code of Canon law as it applies to children. The Catholic Church is the world's largest non-governmental organisation involved in the provision of education and care services to children. It has over three hundred million child members world-wide the vast majority of whom became Church members when they were baptised as infants. Canon law sets out their rights and obligations as members. Children also have rights which are set out in the 1989 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child to which the Holy See is State Party. The impact of the Convention on Canon Law is examined in detail and the analysis charts a distinct and worrying sea-change in the attitude of the Holy See to its obligations under the Convention since the clerical sex abuse scandals became a subject of discussion at the Committee on the Rights of the Child, which monitors implementation of the Convention"--
