S.O.S. Eisberg: "Takes place off the coast of Greenland, where an explorer, Karl Lorenz (Gustav Diessl), is stranded on a steadily-eroding iceberg. A rescue crew, led by the heroic Johannes Krafft (Sepp Rist), reaches Prof. Lorenz, but also becomes stranded, as does Mrs. Lorenz (Leni Riefenstahl), who crashes her plane while trying to land in the icy waters of the North Atlantic. Surrounded by polar bears on their shrinking iceberg, the explorer and his would-be rescuers battle the elements, and each other, while waiting for a miracle."--IMDb

The story of Riefenstahl's first film as director is based on a legend from the Dolomites. On the night of the full moon a mysterious blue light shining from the mountain lures young men from the villages below to their deaths. Riefenstahl plays Junta, a mountain girl, the only one who knows the secret of the blue light and regarded by the villagers as a witch. Although the mountain genre pioneered by Dr Arnold Fanck (see also The White Hell of Pitz Palu) was considered to be apolitical, it has since been linked directly to Nazi cinema. The extent to which the mountain film can be considered proto-fascist may be open to question but there is no doubt that the mystical anti-rationalism was not inimical to Nazi philosophy and Riefenstahl's film, in particular, was greatly admired by Hitler
