8 editions published in 2011 in 3 languages and held by 57 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole has become a worldwide phenomenon thanks to his stirring version of the classic "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". All his life, IZ campaigned for the future of Hawaiian culture and language. He gave widely acclaimed free concerts against a dazzling ocean backdrop. He was a popular hero who met a tragic fate. A childhood injury made movement more difficult as he got older, and he steadily put on weight. Tragically, his obesity reached a point where he could no longer play his instrument in the usual manner. A friendly guitar-maker built him a custom-made instrument that was just right for his proportions. On the day that IZ died in Hawaii, the local government announced immediate state mourning. Over 10,000 admirers attended the funeral. No one who was there will forget the armada of boats and ships that paid him respect -- footage of the event now features in the official video for "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". In the end, his ashes were scattered over the Pacific and his message began to reach across the ocean

IZ : the ʻUkulele songbook by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole( )

4 editions published between 2007 and 2011 in Hawaiian and Undetermined and held by 32 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The current worldwide appreciation of ukulele music can easily be traced to one man, Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo'ole. Israel's music conveys joy and hope and is loved the world over. When writing the book From the Corner of His Eye, author Dean Koontz found inspiration in Iz's music, stating, "I hope that the reader finds pleasure in my story equal to the joy and consolation that I found in the voice, the spirit, and the heart of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole." Tragically, Iz passed away at the age of 38 in 1997. The state flag of Hawaii was flown at half mast as he lay in state at the Hawaiian capitol building. He was the third person in Hawaiian history to be bestowed this honor. Ten thousand people attended his funeral and thousands gathered to witness as his ashes were scattered at Makua Beach. This songbook contains 13 songs transcribed for ukulele exactly as Iz performed them. Titles: 'Ama'ama * Hawai'i '78 * A Hawaiian Like Me * Henehene Kou 'Aka * Ka Huila Wai * Ka Pua U'i * Keyhole Hula (Kauoha Mai) * Kuhio Bay * Na Ka Pueo * Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World * Panini Puakea * 'Ulili E * White Sandy Beach * The Wind Beneath My Wings/He Hawai'i Au
