" Drei Solokonzerte, zwei davon für >klassische< europäische Instrumente, nämlich Klavier und Violoncello, eines für ein bekanntes ostasiatisches Instrument, die Sheng: der gleichmäßige Titel Konzert für ... scheint für eine konventionelle Machart zu sprechen. Doch weit gefehlt: Zwar zeigt das Klavierkonzert gewisse Züge des Virtuosentums und stellt das Cellokonzert melodiöse Elemente in den Vordergrund, aber die vielfältige Sheng, die zwar uralt ist, aber einen wichtigen Modernisierungsprozess hinter sich hat, dominiert das entsprechende Werk, was schon wieder in die Romantik zurückzuweisen scheint. Die Klangwelt der in Berlin lebenden Koreanerin Unsuk Chin (geb. 1961) ist so eigenständig und so >anders< als bei üblichen Solokonzerten, dass der offensichtlich falsche Eindruck der Konvention sich schnell in nichts auflöst. Ihre außerordentlich klangsinnliche Musik bildet ein nicht auseinanderdividierbares Konglomerat europäischer und koreanischer Erbschaften; es hat sich ein ganz eigener Stil herausgebildet, der überall und nirgends herstammen kann, aber sich schnell erschließt. Unsuk Chin meidet sowohl die Ecke "Frauenmusik" wie auch die Avantgardezirkel, von ihr erklang noch kein Werk in Donaueschingen, und doch ist die Zeitgenossenschaft ihrer Musik in jeder Note unverkennbar."(Hartmut Lück, Neue Zeitschrift für Musik 02/2015, S. 82)
