Set in the early 1950's, during the time of Stalin's Personality Cult. The story opens in a provincial town. Tomek's father, a former member of the Home Army is arrested, leaving his mother with the task of raising two children by herself. The neighbor upstairs commits suicide when her husband is also arrested and transported to the prison camp. The teachers at school are ideologues who teach the students propaganda. One day, they ask the students who among them goes to church on Sundays; the whole class stands up to defeat the purpose of the propaganda lesson. Tomek is sent to the training school in the summer. There he absorbs most of the ideology pumped into his head, and when his father is released from prison he finds a different boy than the one left

Walkower = Walkover by Jerzy Skolimowski( Visual )

4 editions published between 1965 and 1969 in Polish and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A remarkably original blend of extreme subjectivity and a kind of desperate objectivity in a semi-autobiographical narrative composed in only 34 shots (every shot is the equivalent of a sequence). Skolimowski plays Andrzej who is supporting himself by hustling as a boxer although at 30 he is near the end of his boxing career. The narrative is punctuated by the 'hero' reciting poems (written by Skolimowski), expressions of non-conformity (the need to protest to make an impression)
