J. Willis Sayre photograph collection, ca. 1900-1955 by J. Willis Sayre( Visual )

in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The collection consists of photographs of local and traveling actors and actresses, performers of vaudeville and burlesque acts, singers and other musicians, dancers, playwrights, theater and company managers, and other theatrical personalities. Scenes from theatrical performances and publicity scenes for motion picture showings are also included. Primarily from the period 1900-1954, with some images from the 19th century, the collection documents a little-studied period when Seattle had a prominent place in the development of vaudeville. Arranged into two groupings devised by Sayre: a large, organized set given to the University of Washington School of Drama and a smaller set of prized, autographed items given to Seattle University and purchased by the University of Washington Libraries
