This enormously popular film took its title from a German radio which was broadcast every Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. during World War II and which featured performances of songs for and by soldiers. A woman hears a melody asked for by a soldier she has not seen in four years and is able to reunite with him. This slim narrative provided a conduit for musical numbers by such favorite stars as Marika Rökk and Heinz Rühmann. Made on a moderate budget, the movie was a favorite with the public and was screened constantly during the war years. It also contained a heavy dose of military propaganda
