Lattice dynamics; proceedings by R. F Wallis( )

1 edition published in 1965 in English and held by 29 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Lattice Dynamics covers the proceedings of the 1963 International Conference on Lattice Dynamics, held at the H.C. Ørsted Institute of the University of Copenhagen on August 5-9. This book is composed of seven parts that focus on a better fundamental understanding of the interactions between atoms in solids and their role in lattice dynamics. The major topics covered include phonon dispersion curves, anharmonic effects, optical and dielectric effects, influence of defects on lattice vibrations, elasticity, and developments. Papers on the study of vibrational spectra by infrared absorption

Scaling and renormalization groups : introductory lectures by Finn Ravndal( Book )

1 edition published in 1976 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Under a scale transformatioon x + x' = [lambda]x the hamiltonian H for some system under consideration is changed into H → H' . This latter transformation is called a renormalization group transformation. Obviously it is intimately connected with the corresponding scale transformation. Scale invariance roughly means that after the scale transformation x → x' the transformed hamiltonian is the same as the original hamiltonian. The scale invariant system is therefore described by a so-called fixed point hamiltonian H* with the property that under a scale transformation H* → H* . The purpose of these lectures is to illustrate these ideas in greater detail. For convenience the critical behaviour of magnetic systems have been chosen to be the framework in which we will discuss scale transfornations and the corresponding renormalization groups with their scale invariant fixed points
