Supporting integration activities in object-oriented applications by Verónica Isabel Uquillas Gómez( Book )

2 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Polarization switching, locking and synchronization in VCSELs with optical injection by Ignace Gatare Gahangara( )

2 editions published in 2008 in French and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) have competitive advantages with respect to conventional edge-emitting lasers such as the fabrication of dense two-dimensional VCSEL arrays for optical interconnects. VCSELs exhibit intriguing polarization properties which are critical in polarization-sensitive applications. Polarization switching (PS) between two VCSEL s preferential orthogonal linearly polarized (LP) modes may be induced by changing the bias current, temperature or, externally, through orthogonally polarized optical injection. Depending on optical injection parameters, i.e., the injected power and the frequency detuning, injection-locking of the VCSEL can be achieved. We contribute to the study of polarization bistability, polarization switching (PS), injection-locking and transverse mode competition in a VCSEL subject to orthogonal continuous-wave optical injection. We experimentally show and theoretically demonstrate that PS and locking may involve rich nonlinear dynamics including wave mixing, limit cycle, subharmonic resonances or a period-doubling route to chaos. In particular, we analyze the interplay between PS and the underlying nonlinear dynamics, and unveil its bifurcation mechanisms. Our study brings a new insight into the physics of polarization dynamics in externally-driven VCSELs. Chaos synchronization of coupled VCSELs is also investigated. A feedback-induced chaotic light from the master VCSEL is unidirectionally injected into the slave VCSEL. We show that the synchronization quality can be significantly enhanced when chaos involves both orthogonal LP modes. This result is interesting for chaos communication schemes based on VCSELs

1 edition published in 2010 in French and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The doctoral dissertation analyses the growth of Brussels and how, throughout the 19th Century, it was guided, manipulated or influenced by the Belgian State and its civil servants. The operation was quite delicate: no urban territorial unit was provided for; the support of local officials was wavering; the interests of landowners had to be managed; and, last but not least, any unilateral exercise of State power was doomed to fail. For all planning competences were in the hands of the municipalities who, consequently, were not subjected to the State's rule nor, for that matter, to the Government's planning suggestions. This peculiar situation triggered a lot of inventiveness on the part of the State. Government officials and civil servants subtly introduced themselves into the road department of the provincial Governor where they played upon the correspondence which the latter held with the rural municipalities surrounding the City of Brussels. Indeed, up until the First World War, up until the emergence of the modern planning laws, the registration of new streets and neighbourhoods, presented both by private and public actors, passed through the Governor's office. The examination of the provincial archives therefore reveals how the State finally succeeded in reshaping the local considerations on time, future, unity and assembly. It shows how the civil servants cleverly reinvented four urbanization instruments - i.e. alignment, projection, road regime and ground leveling - to fit the Belgian capital's purposes. In short, the doctoral dissertation analyses the framing and the shaping of urban growth by the mere power of procedural and technical inventiveness
Binnenklas-differentiatie : leerkansen voor alle leerlingen( Book )

1 edition published in 2014 in Dutch and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
