"The aim of this analysis is to test the asymmetry of unanticipated positive and negative monetary shock on output in the European regions (Eurostat NUTS2 level). The results, obtained by an individual intercept model either with "random" effects or with fixed effects, support the hypothesis of asymmetry at regional level and show in particular the "neutral" effect of positive monetary shock on the output in the EMU regions with low GDP and M3 growth rates."--Editor
Should I stay or should I go? migration and job-skills mismatch among Italian doctoral recipients by Vincenzo Alfano( )

1 edition published in 2019 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Finding a non-academic job in line with both doctoral graduates' degree and acquired know-how can be difficult because of insufficient demand for R&D skills in public administration and private enterprise and/or because of the lack of matching between the existing demand and the Ph.D. holders' specialization. The aim of this paper is to test whether migrating from some regions may improve job-education matching in Italy. The econometric strategy takes into account Ph.D. holders' selfselection into non-academic employment as well as the endogeneity of the migration choice. Results demonstrate that migration seems to facilitate the possibility of finding better job opportunities. More specifically, only migration within the regions of the centre and north of Italy seems to improve jobeducation matching

Regional growth in Europe: an analysis through CART methodology by Rita DE SIANO( )

2 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"The aim of this work is to identify and describe groups of regional economies (NUTS2 level) belonging to nine European countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain), in order to evaluate the role played by specialization in determining regional growth. The grouping of regions will be carried out taking into account the initial levels of per capita income and productive specialization. ... Results show that initial specialization in food and beverages, chemicals, credit, metal products and machinery and textile activities is important for regional growth and may suggest that lower variety would favour local growth. Besides, both descriptive and econometric analyses evidence that regions' behaviour would support the catching-up hypothesis."--Editor

Waste management performance in Italian provinces: Efficiency and spatial effects of local governments and citizen action( )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Highlights: Aim: waste management capability of administrators and citizens in Italian provinces. DEA for efficiency scores and Local Moran statistics into a Markov transition matrix. Positive spatial correlation for efficiency scores is found. Results: 2 "good" clusters in the north-east and south, 1 bad in the centre. Long run: joint action of the actors reduces the gap between good and bad provinces. Abstract: This paper investigates the waste management performance of Italian provinces in the period 2004-2011. An efficiency analysis through DEA is first implemented in order to assign efficiency scores both to local administrations and citizens. The presence of spatial interdependencies in the waste management performance of governments and citizens together with the persistence of good/bad performance in waste management distribution is then tested. Our results highlight the presence of two clusters showing better performance in north-eastern and southern Italy. The provinces in central Italy performed poorly. A positive spatial correlation for efficiency scores is then found. An interesting result, also for policy makers, is that the joint action of local institutions and citizens reduces the differences between "good" and "bad" provinces, stimulating a convergence process towards better waste management performance. The waste management process is optimised when both citizens and local government behave appropriately
Specializzazione e crescita : un'applicazione alle regioni dell'Unione monetaria europea( )

1 edition published in 2004 in Italian and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The aim of this work is the identification and the description of groups of regions belonging to eight European countries in order to evaluate the role of productive specialization in determining regional income growth. The novelty of the study is the application of a new methodology, the "Classification and Regression Tree Analysis". The results show that initial specialization in manufacturing (machinery and metal products) and services (credit and transport) is crucial for local growth and suggest the existence of multiple clubs of regions, each characterized by a specific specialization model and growth trend."--Editor
