Directly harvest WorldCat records

Download and process metadata that enables users of your Web application to link to WorldCat library lookup for published content
Illustration: XML-format WorldCat metadata

With authorization from OCLC, you can download a subset of the WorldCat database for harvesting by your search engine or other enterprise Web application. Once WorldCat metadata is integrated, end users can Find in a Library®, discovering an alternate source for published materials, complementary information and links to electronic full text and library-based services such as Ask a Librarian.

The WorldCat Record Harvesting Set contains XML-format metadata from more than four million records representing many popular titles and a selection of unique items cataloged in WorldCat. Metadata fields in records generally include:

  • URL of corresponding WorldCat Web record
  • Title
  • Language
  • Author
  • Publisher name and year
  • Edition
  • Genre (e.g. fiction)
  • Applicable standard numbers (e.g. ISBN)
  • Subject headings
  • Related Library of Congress descriptions
