William Miller Owen and Allison Owen papers, 1867-1914

Papers of William and Allison Owen pertain to their association with the Washington Artillery. The bulk of the collection consists of letters (1913-1914) from state governors, United States congressmen, cabinet members, military officials, and others acknowledging invitations to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Washington Artillery. The collection includes financial reports (1878, 1880); the resignation of Colonel William Miller Owen and the appointment of Major John B. Richardson as commander (1879); a program for the dedication of a monument at the Metairie Cemetery (1880); a roster of members (1890); the manuscript musical score of "The Washington Artillery Triumphal March" by Edward Gabrielli; and photographs of Confederate and Federal officers, Washington artillery military maneuvers, group leaders, and uniforms
