A two-volume compilation of alphabetically-arranged, 2,000-word biographies of 78 of the most often taught and studied explorers and pioneers in world history, mostly collected from the publisher's series Great Lives from History, with a few newer essays. Includes major explorers of the New World, explorers broadly identified with world exploration, those who played major roles in expanding the western frontier, ancient explorers, and modern pioneers of technologies and space. The text of each essay is divided into three sections covering the explorer's early life, life's work, and impact. Includes a bibliography for further reading. Suitable for high-school age students.
