BAL describes second and third printings with imprint date and advertisements as in the first printing, noting differences in the pagination and makeup of the preliminaries, adding, "Three issues of the second printing have been ... arbitrarily designated A, B, and C. It is possible that these are in fact printings and not issues." The differences noted among these "issues" have only to do with the paper, which may indicate no more than a change of stock (laid to wove or wove to laid) over the course of printing. The next printing after these has imprint date 1877, with the catalogue at end dated May 1st, 1877.

BAL's "issues" A,B,C are printed on laid paper, wove paper, and mixed wove and laid paper respectively. The 3rd printing, on laid paper, has preliminary gathering [1]⁸; pages [I]-[II] blank, used as pastedown; [III-IV] blank; [V] half title; [VI] illustration; [VII] title; [VIII] copyright; [IX] dedication; [X] blank; [XI] dedication; [XII-XIV] contents; [XV]-XVI list of illustrations.
