Abstract:

The Alfred James Waterhouse papers, 1890-1944 contain, primarily, correspondence from and to Waterhouse. Of note are letters to and from his daughter, Ruth Waterhouse Bush, detailing their estrangement and reconciliation. Other correspondents include Harry E. Bush, Edmund Vance Cooke, Mary Garden, Charles K. McClatchy, and Ella Wheeler Wilcox. Also included are writings by Waterhouse (poems and an undated manuscript with title "The Women - Heaven Bless Them") and news clippings regarding his poems, his career, and obituaries upon his death. The collection also includes a small group of correspondence and papers by his second wife, Lillian F. Hines Waterhouse.
