Abstract:

Series 5.2.1 (alphabetical correspondence, 1985-1996). Contains correspondence concerning the collection, acquisitions, research, exhibitions, visits, requests for slides/transparencies, letters to and from artists, museums, scholars, students, other curators, the general public and donors.

Series 5.2.2 (chronological correspondence, 1984-1998). Contains correspondence concerning the collection, acquisitions, research, exhibitions, visits, requests for slides/transparencies, letters to and from artists, museums, scholars, students, other curators the general public and donors. This subseries also includes correspondence produced by various curatorial assistants and administrative assistants.

Series 5.2.3 (interdepartmental correspondence, 1984-1998). Contains memos concerning gifts, purchases, use of space, exhibitions, information for publications, staffing information, care and conservation and loans. This subseries also includes correspondence produced by various curatorial and administrative assistants.

Series 5.2.5 (correspondence with galleries, 1984-1996). Includes correspondence offering works for sale, regarding visits, inquiries, and details on buying, selling and shipping. Includes Texas galleries.

Series 5.2.4.1 (Texas galleries, 1992). In an attempt to identify Texas artists as well as those whose work has been shaped by Texas, a letter was sent on 3/26/1992 to Texas galleries. In the letter, gallery owners were asked to identify new artists, to identify artist strengths and weaknesses, to provide a list of artists represented and offer slides if available. This subseries includes 878 slides which are filed by gallery name. Most of the slides are identified with artist name and many with title of work.

Series 5.2.5 (correspondence with collectors, 1986-1996). This correspondence includes information on collections, visits, gifts (cash and works) to MFAH, and loans for exhibition. Most are filed under letter of alphabet, although several (i.e. Freed, Romsky, Simkins) have separate files created by the curator.

Series 5.2.6 (correspondence wtih donors, 1985-1991). Most letters concern gifts of cash and art works. This small subseries was created by the curator.

Series 5.2.7 (correspondence with museums, scholars and universities, 1985-1996). Files include invitations, information regarding visits, speakers, exhibitions, exhibition proposals, requests for catalogues, clippings and requests for information on the MFAH collection.
