Abstract:

The British Columbia Ombudsman receives enquiries and complaints about the practices and services provided by public agencies. While not an advocate, the Ombudsman can conduct impartial and confidential investigations to determine if a public agency is being fair to the people it serves. The message from the Ombudsman overviews the performance of the Office of the Ombudsman in 2005 calendar year. The case summaries show the variety of work done by the Office of the Ombudsman and the results of the investigations. The cases involved people living in all parts of the province who dealt with authorities such as ministries, local governments, health authorities, and provincial Crown corporations. The statistics shows the statistical information of files opened and closed by region, year, and authorities. The report also provides budget summary and staff information.
