Abstract:

High praise from knowledgeable critics in the US, UK, and Australia greeted the publication of Thompson's three compact archaeological books, now bound together, complete with maps, illustrations, charts and indexes, in one volume. In addition to the virtues of succinctness and simplicity, Dr. Thompson's studies convey a sense of the drama of archaeology; for this Australian professor had been a field worker as well as scholar, having worked at the archaeological sites of Roman Jericho and Dibon while he was an honorary Fellow of the American Schools of Oriental Research in Jerusalem. The commendation given his archaeological books is typified by that of David Kerr, former reviewer for CHRISTIANITY TODAY, "It will be difficult to find anywhere else, in such brief compass, so much valuable material on the foremost subject in Biblical studies ... a collection of the most pertinent evidence from complete sources."--Amazon.com.
