The "Atlas of the Ancient Near East" provides scholars and students with up-to-date information on the development of the Ancient Near East from the prehistoric period to the end of the Roman Empire, when Constantine the Great transferred the seat of his empire to Byzantium in 330 AD. Geographic coverage ranges from the Aegean coast of Anatolia in the west through Iran and Afghanistan to the east, and from the Black and Caspian Seas in the north to Arabia and the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean in the south. The atlas focuses on a board range of topics, not only political and military but social and cultural ones as well such as trade, religion, theatre and games, slavery and much more. Written in a lively and engaging style with site plans and images to accompany the detailed maps The Atlas of the Ancient Near East supports the study of the Ancient Near East and is an invaluable reference for every student of the fascinating cultures of ancient western Asia.
