Abstract:
An expanded version of lectures delivered on various occasions. Appeals to the Catholic dioceses on the eve of the Second Vatican Council to atone for the Shoah, which was carried out by the Nazis in the name of the German people. Argues that Nazi antisemitism served to cover up the Nazi movement's own greed and desire to rule the world. Nazi ideology was also motivated by opposition to the Judeo-Christian conscience, and to Christ, who was born a Jew. States that racial antisemitism and Nazism were not a continuation of Christian anti-Judaism but rather the fruit of Nietzschean philosophy, Nietzsche being the father of Nazism's anti-theological impulses. The Second Vatican Council represents the Catholic Church's response to the Holocaust and will augur a new era in Jewish-Christian relations.
