Abstract:

Autograph letter signed from Wagner to Ferdinand Heine of the Dresden Opera House. This fascinating and eloquent letter may be considered as one of the most important written by Wagner as a young man, when he was living in poverty in the countryside near Paris. Wagner has just been informed that his opera RIENZI has been accepted for production at the Dresden Opera House. He expresses his hope that it will be performed either in late 1842 or early 1843, and discusses his concerns for the stage decor, the costumes, and the singers Schröder-Devrient and Tichatschek.
