Abstract:
Two fundamental problems concerning our art work, the three-dimensionality and the idea of the "natural", are followed up to aim at installation projects. The investigation on the three dimensions begins with the genuine desire for the "real space" and defines our method of work. Our projects starting from a creation of individual pieces so called "unites" develop into composing them to form more complex spatial structures. Throughout the study of the "natural", we try to surpass the silemma of "abstruct expressionism" by mediating conceptually the vision and the creation. The ideas of nature and the natural in the Japanese culture are examined. since traditionally the plastic arts lack theoretical concepts, our research leads to the tradition of poetry, in particular to the thoughts of Basho, The 17th century poet. our concept of the natural manifests itself already in the choice of the materials, fragments of trees. we are aware of their symbolic meanings. again the problem of different cultures reveals itself. the fact, that the Japanese modern art is in itself a continuous confrontation with the west, is obviously reflected in our own work
