Abstract:
A biography of the great French novelist, Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850), presented through contemporary art and his own illustrated manuscripts. The film traces Balzac's life from his unhappy childhood, through his formative years as aspiring poet and business man and on to the successful author. There is an interesting sequence on his curious writing habits and stress is laid upon the actual sources of many of his literary creations. The film was made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the author's death.
