Abstract:

This collection contains correspondence, original artwork, manuscripts, and ephemera by or relating to children's author and illustrator Beatrix Potter. It includes original watercolors and drawings, watercolors and manuscript for The Tailor of Gloucester, pen-and-ink drawings and manuscript for The Tale of Little Pig Robinson, and sketches by W.B. Potter, brother of Beatrix Potter. Significant correspondents include Sylvie Heelis, Alexander McKay, Winifrede Moore, Marion Frazer Harris Perry, Elizabeth H. Stevens, and Amelia Warne. The letters to Marion Frazer Harris Perry are of particular interest, as they describe Potter's experiences shortly before and during the early years of World War II. Pieces of ephemera include autographed greeting cards, photographs, Beswick porcelain figurines, puzzles, games, calendars, and exhibition and sales catalogs.
