Abstract:

Materials documenting the life of William Alvin Pittenger, a Duluth, Minnesota lawyer, who served in the House of Representatives for fourteen years (1929-1933, 1935-1937, 1939-1947) and was a leader in the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project. Pittenger was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana on December 29, 1885, attended Wabash College and Harvard Law School, and settled in Duluth in 1912. He died November 26, 1951. Included are a November 5, 1946 Pittenger for Congress campaign card; four obituaries (November 27, 1951) from an unidentified newspaper and the New York Times, New York Herald Tribune, and Duluth Herald; and an undated memorial in what appears to be a Minnesota Eighth District Republican Party publication.
