Abstract:

This Dover edition, first published in 1979, is a revised and corrected republication in a single volume of the work originally published by Oxford University Press, London, in two volumes. Board and Table Games 1 was first published in 1960 (second edition, 1969) and Board and Table Games 2 in 1969. These books have been written to introduce some of the best board and table games from the world's treasury to readers. Books on card games and international chess are readily available and therefore, they have been omitted. Ninety-one games are described and the oldest was played some 5,000 years ago. May every reader find pleasure in these pages!
