Wien 1939. Gestapo pågriper den jødiske møbeltapetsereren Gustav Kleinmann og hans sønn, Fritz, og de blir begge sendt til Buchenwald i Tyskland. Det blir begynnelsen på en ufattelig prøvelse der far og sønn blir slått, sultet og tvunget til å bygge konsentrasjonsleiren som de selv skal bo i. Når Gustav blir sendt til Auschwitz, som er det samme som en dødsdom, nekter sønnen å forlate farens side. Gjennom alle grusomhetene og lidelsene var det en bestemt ting som holdt dem i live; kjærligheten mellom far og sønn. Boken er basert på Gustavs hemmelige dagbok og forteller den utrolige historien om mot og overlevelse under Holocaust. Omtalen er utarbeidet av BS.
