The Case of the Left-handed lady, by Nancy Springer , is a fun and exciting twist on the classic Sherlock Holmes mysteries. 14 year old Enola Holmes, the clever, quick-witted younger sister of reknowned detective Sherlock Holmes escapes into the city London after being abandoned , left by her reformist mother, at the mercy of the pairs' cold, logical eldest brother. Rather than following his wishes to attend a young lady's boarding school, she establishes herself as a young assistant in " Dr. Ragostins World Perditorium." Her first case goes awry however when searching for the left-handed lady leads her closer to home than she had realized. Enola will have to choose whether to surrender her freedom and rejoin family and friends, or stay true to her name: Enola, or "alone" backwards.
