Abstract:

Abstract: This paper attempts to show the jazz importance of Charlie "Bird" Parker and how he grew into a master musician on the saxophone, with skills he then used to help create the art form of bebop. In addition, this text will offer a comparison between the styles of Parker and that of three jazz greats who came after him: Phil Woods, Sonny Stitt, and Vincent Herring. Through an analysis of a transcription from a solo from each player, and two from Bird, a similarity will be apparent between the bebop lines of these artists, and how they each developed from the initial improvisations of Bird.
