Abstract:

Christopher Stacpoole power of attorney and letters includes 1 power of attorney and 2 letters dated between 1820 and 1830. The power of attorney appoints Christopher Stacpoole, cordwainer, as Massey Stacpoole's attorney and is dated April 18, 1820. The power of attorney also includes a [copy? of a] letter from James Stacpoole to Christopher Stacpoole dated April 20, 1820 concerning the brig William Henry (where Francis Stacpoole was Master), Anderton's (Captain of the Eliza Anne) drunken killing of a sailor, and Biddy Mahony who got married in Kilrush to Hassett. The 2 letters dated October 16, 1829 and May 25, 1830 are from Mary Kelly née Morris in Ballinameen [Roscommon, Ireland] to Christopher Stacpoole in New York. Mary Morris' letters to Christopher Stacpoole concern the death and will of Mary’s uncle, John Morris. John Morris bequeathed all of his property to his niece, Mary Morris. Mary's letters include signed statements certifying that Mary is Mary Morris and that Mary's statements are "true." In her letters, Mary communicates to Christopher what property should be given to her son, Michael Kelly. Mary’s October 16, 1829 letter includes a letter to her son.
