Abstract:

Pamphlets, 1861-1909, the majority of which were published during the Civil War period. Most of the ones from the war period are pro-Union. The rest of the pamphlets were published after the war and are concerned with events that happened during the war and the Civil War's place in United States history. Some topics covered by the pamphlets include reconstruction of the southern states; Confederate battle flags; mistreatment of Union soldiers taken prisoner; the Confederate navy; and the Confederate government. A few first-person accounts are in the collection. These narratives are by military men such as Gen. R.E. Rodes, Col. John B. Baldwin, Capt. Robert E. Park, and Gen. A.P. Hill. Military units and campaigns covered by the pamphlets include the Army of the Potomac, the 12th Ala. Regiment, the Richmond Howitzer Battalion, the Army of the Cumberland, the Army of Northern Virginia, the Gettysburg Campaign, the battle of Chancellorsville, the Elkhorn Campaign, and the Seven Days battle.
