Abstract:
WIDELY DEVELOPED IN THE FIFTIES AND SIXTIES, TOPOLOGICAL CONCEPT FOR TRANSPORTATION NETWORK ANALYSIS STILL CONSTITUTES THE BASIS OF MANY MODELS OR COMPUTER GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION (GIS SYSTEMS, SUCH AS SYSTEME 9 OR ARC INFO) OR NETWORK ANALYSIS (DAVIS AND RETIS, DEVELOPED RESPECTIVELY BY THE INRETS AND THE RATP). BY PROPOSING A METHOD FOR CONSIDERING A TRANSPORT NETWORK AS A GRAPH (COMPOSED OF A SET OF "NODES", WHICH ARE CONNECTED OR NOT CONNECTED OR NOT NOCCECTED TO ONE ANOTHER BY "VERTICES"), MATHEMATICAL GRAPH THEORY PROVIDES ELEMENTS FOR THE ANALYSIS AND MEASUREMENT OF TOPOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF NETWORKS. THE PRESENT WORK DESCRIBES A THEORETICAL AND OPERATIONAL STUDY CONSISTING IN THE DESIGN OF A GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION SYSTEM FOR TRANSPORTATION NETWORKS (CRAPO). THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS STUDY IS DERIVED FROM THE POTENTIAL OF RETIS SOFTWARE, WHICH HAS PREVIOUSLY ONLY BEEN APPLIED TO RATP BUS NETWORKS. THE CRAPO SYSTEM, OUTLINED HERE, MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO EVALUATE THE CONNECTIVE QUALITIES OF VARIOUS NETWORKS AND TO IDENTITY THEIR EFFECTS ON THE TERRITORIAL DEFORMATION (SPATIAL ASPECT OF TRANSPORTATION PLANNING).
