Abstract:

People gather on the Court of Presidents during the day at the Great Lakes Exhibition (1936-1937). Each eagle overlooking the Court of Presidents represented a United States president born in one of the Great Lakes states. The court lead to Lake Erie and to Billy Rose's Aquacade which had replaced its unpopular predecessor, the Marine Theater, in 1937. The Aquacade was a 5000-seat theater-restaurant that featured diving and synchronized swimming shows along with performances by Olympic swimmers Eleanor Holm and Johnny Weissmuller.
