Abstract:
The German play is adapted from the French novel Dame aux camélieas by Alexandre Dumas, fils. The file contains materials related to performances in Philadelphia, including a published copy (Leipzig: Centralbureau für Theater, 1852) with annotations, used as a prompt-book, as well as handwritten materials: 1 scenario and 15 role books. Includes role books for the following parts: Duval; Armand, dessen Sohn; Gaston Nieux; Saint-Gaudens; Gustav, Advokat; Nichette; Graf von Giray; Herr von Varville; der Doctor; Marguerite Gauthier; Nanine, ihre Kammerjungfer; Prudence Duvernoy, Putzmacherin; Olympia; ein Commissionair; and Bedienter. Pasted to the inside front cover of the published copy is a clipping from the Philadelphia Sonntagsblatt of 6 Feb. 1881 about a performance of the play.
