Abstract:

When a young Ugandan student is found murdered in her London bedsit, DI Jack Carrigan is called in to investigate. But Carrigan is considered a maverick by the uniformed police hierarchy, with a number of question marks attached to him - including his own apparent link with Uganda; so his boss appoints DS Geneva Miller to assist, while reporting back to him on her partner's methods. Plunged into an underworld of illegal immigrant communities, Carrigan and Miller discover that the murdered girl's studies may have threatened to reveal things that some people will go to any lengths to keep secret. It is a sinister case that will force Carrigan to face up to his past, and Miller to decide which path she wants her future to follow.
