Abstract:

Much more than a mere "stooge", Victor Pavie was the repository of the projects of the young Victor Hugo, the faithful and absolute disciple of the very first fights. He shared the daily life, the sufferings and the joys of Hugo. Adele Hugo and Leopoldine came to his wedding. Thanks to the discovery of a large sum of unpublished letters, the passionate and intimate links between Victor Hugo and Victor Pavie benefit from a new light. This correspondence enriches the history of Romanticism and makes it possible to correct some misunderstandings concerning the (necessarily asymmetrical) relations between the two Victors.
