Each volume has added t.p., inserted: The plays of Shakespeare illustrated during the several preceding years and arranged 1835 and following years. Vol. 1 has additional added t.p., inserted, emblazoned in gold and colors: The plays of William Shakespeare, illustrated by Thomas Turner, esquire, of Gloucester.
Dedication (dated 1803) signed: John Boydell, Josiah Boydell, George Nicol; "Advertisement" signed: C.N.
Material bound in with this Boydell, 1802, Shakespeare edition comprises the following, all mounted or inlaid: the plates belonging to the Boydell edition in 3 states; 740 original drawings, most in colours, of which about 300 are by important British artists including John Masay Wright (some 100 of his drawings appear), Henry Singleton (40 drawings), Philippe Jacques de Loutherbourg (20 drawings), Robert Smirke (18), John Thurston (18), Hubert Gravelot (15), Anthony Walker (14), J.A. Atkinson (11), and others, such as Stothard, with only several drawings each; more than 3,000 additional protraits and plates, many of which are proofs; cuttings and extracts from various publications; playbills of various performances, from Garrick to Kean; arms emblazoned; etc.
