Abstract:

Primarily a binder of assorted reports, articles, sea trial data, specifications, and plans regarding the container ship Selandia built by Burmeister & Wain in 1972 in Copenhagen for Østasiatisk kompagni (East Asiatic Company). Also includes information on the ship's namesake, the 1912 motor-ship which was the first commercial sea going vessel powered by a diesel engine. The containership was sold to the U.S. for use in the Military Sealift Command, and was converted and renamed the Gilliland (Roll-on/roll-off ship : T-AKR-298) in 1998. Conversion work was completed by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. Binder lacks information on the ship after 1996.
