Abstract:

Francisco Camacho building is not the largest nor the oldest or the most colorful, nor the most important in Bogota, or on Jiménez Avenue. However, unlike many of the buildings around it, is a city landmark, an object recognized by many passersbys in the center of the city. In this book, Roberto José Londoño investigates how this small-transparent building designed and built by the firm Cuéllar Serrano Gómez in 1948 - is the product of his time, a time of contrasts and changes in society, and the architecture is a period marked by technological innovation and adaptation of the principles of modern international architecture to the local context. The account of how the building Francisco Camacho, was built on a small plot which is itself the product of urban reform became a constant in the changing city. He argues that the architectural composition in a batch of 50 m2 should not be understood as a matter of proportion and geometry, but rather in terms of cutting, pitch and size, the smallest possible. The author, using different exercises featuring this unusual building and carried out with students from the Universidad de los Andes, breaks down the building in all its aspects, thus leaving a valuable analysis of how a moment, an environment and architecture constitutes a building that is emblematic of the period in which it was constructed.
