Abstract:

This CBC program puts a human face on the economic downturn, through a close-up encounter with employees of an auto parts plant. Edscha of Canada, in Niagara Falls, manufactures car door hinges. But, the German-owned company is in trouble and, to save itself, it's killing off this Canadian plant. Linden MacIntyre spends more than a month at the Edscha plant as its final day approaches. This painful, dramatic struggle focuses on two men, linked by a common cause but divided bitterly in their objectives. Their stories reveal the grim reality of job loss for thousands of Canadians.
