Abstract:

Correspondence, letterbooks, speeches and other papers of Edward Everett, 1675-1910. Includes letters collected by Everett of early American statesmen George Washington, James Madison, John Adams and others; and letters and other material relating to Everett's study in Europe and careers as Harvard professor, Massachusetts senator and governor, and orator including correspondence with John Quincy Adams, Washington Allston, and many others.

Collection also includes Edward Everett's diaries kept while studying and traveling in Europe, 1815-19; and almost daily in Cambridge, Mass., Washington, D.C., and other homes, 1825-64. Also, Everett family papers, manuscript drafts of speeches and articles, school notebooks, sermons, newspaper clippings, and printed works of Edward Everett.
