In "The Fifth Column, " while in the throes of the Spanish Civil War, Hemingway ponders what effect the war will have on his writing. "Work In Progress" presents a bold tapestry of men at sea in World War II. Lastly, "Saturday Night at the Whorehouse in Billings, Montana" is a fond eulogy to Alice, a 250 pound whore.
