Abstract:

Return of the Secaucus seven: A group of formerly politically active 1960s college friends decide to reunite for a weekend. The intricate dynamics of their relationships play out over the two days as feelings of love, jealousy and animosity are revealed and discussed over good food, theatre, alcohol and drugs, in a weekend of nostalgia and baby-boomer soul-searching. Lianna: Suppressed emotions, curiosity and a loveless marriage provide the catalysts for the story of Lianna, a wife and mother driven to re-examine her sexuality after confronting her cheating husband. She meets Ruth, who opens Lianna to new possibilities. Brother from another planet: The brother is a mute extraterrestrial seeking refuge from the atrocities of his home planet in the streets of harlem. He connects with Harlem's inhabitants, but drugs, financial inadequacy, alienation, racism and loneliness plague his existence in this allegory for Western racism.
