Abstract:

Almost ninety years old, she lives alone in Turin with the elderly cat Poison, human-friendly feline, and with the memories of a finished love (her partner, the beloved Nora, has been dead for many years now); has nothing else to do but keep track of the new pains in the bones, listen to the radio news of violence and catastrophes - murders, bombs at airports, drought - and have a chat with her friend and her age Malvina, more and more forgetful and lost on the crowded paths of dementia. The old woman is definitely tired of living, tired "like an old cemetery worm", but luckily in her days there is Gabriela, a lump of industrious youth coming from the Eastern countries and surviving a ramshackle family odyssey. And in Gabriela's life, in addition to a string of terrible relatives trying to extort as much money as possible, there is cousin Dorin, an aspiring terrorist who is actively engaged in terrorizing her, Gabriela, who refuses to marry him. In constant loving dialogue with death (he even tried to die on command, like the Eastern sages, but he could not), the old woman in spite of herself is still full of energy, and she takes care of what is left of her love : the decrepit Veleno and his friend evaporated, which in the meantime was deported by relatives snakes in a nursing home. And when dark threats loom over Gabriela, the old arthritic lioness does not think twice about pulling her claws to defend what is dear to her.
