Abstract:

Telescopes on Earth have detected an Earth size planet circling a star less than ten light years away. Now the race is on to acquire photographs and evidence that will show whether or not the planet is truly like earth, and if it bears life. Tucked away on the side of the moon that never faces earth, a team sprints to erect a high powered astronomical observatory. But building the farside observatory is a complex, dangerous task, besieged by radiation and meteoroids from the outside, and brewing tension inside. Breakdowns mechanical and emotional are commonplace, and the isolated setting encourages a tangled web of politics and ambition to fester and grow. Accidents happen, some of them fatal, and it quickly becomes clear that some of these accidents are deliberate. Who could be sabotaging farside, and why?
