Deals with the history of Hungarian Jewry from 1650 up to the end of World War I. Hungarian Jews struggled to achieve integration and emancipation, finally granted at the end of the 19th century. In ch. 7 (p. 121-148), examines the development of antisemitism in Hungarian politics from the establishment of the first antisemitic party in the 1880s. Discusses the role of the Jews in Hungary's economic and cultural life. Contains an annotated bibliography (p. 163-228) divided by subject, including pogroms and blood libels.
