Abstract:

Materials, collected by Peabody, relating to Stroudwater, Me., which was founded in the late 1720s as Stroudwater Landing ; and later became the Town of Stroudwater. This separated from Falmouth and in June of that year changed its name to Westbrook; in 1899 part was annexed to Portland.

Includes post office records and account books, library association records, Stroudwater Light Infantry Company notes, miscellaneous papers collected by Andrew Hawes relating to area meetings and schools, notebooks compiled by Dr. Allston Hunt, genealogies of Stroudwater families, photographs used by Myrtle Lovejoy for This Was Stroudwater, and an 1891 map of the Stroudwater area. Family names represented include Libby, Milliken, Maxfield, Chesley, Skillins, Starbird, Jackson, Emmerson, Parker, and Patrick.
